CC19 teaming up with TRAC Cymru

With the many exciting changes to Cwlwm Celtaidd for 2019, we are extremely happy to announce our new partnership with TRAC Cymru, an initiative that promotes and encourages the participation in and the development of the Folk Music scene in wales.

Here’s a bit from the TRAC Cymru Website:

“We kindle interest, nurture talent and present the very best of Wales’ folk musicians across the world. We hold day courses and residential courses to help enthusiasts and professionals hone their skills and develop talent across our traditional arts. You’ll find us working in schools, in communities, on festival fields and at international showcases, helping to ensure that the traditional arts of Wales continue to enrich lives regardless of age, background, race or language.”

With TRAC on board, we hope that we can nurture the passion for Folk Music, Dance and Culture within the younger generations.

Cwlwm Celtaidd 2018

Following the success of Cwlwm Celtaidd over the past few years, we are always looking at ways to develop the festival.

As a result, this year the festival will not take place in its current format. Cwlwm Celtaidd will host a few smaller events in 2018 as we prepare to bring the festival back in full swing in 2019.

Keep an eye out on our website for more information about upcoming events in 2018.

Thank you for making the 2017 festival such a success!

A big thank you to all who took part in Cwlwm Celtaidd 2017.
Artists, stewards, schools, Pavilion staff, sponsors, bcbc tourism, Porthcawl Town Council, the Welsh Folk Dance Society, Music Wales and all the people who bought tickets and supported the event – together we made this happen.
We hope you enjoyed the festival!

Cwlwm Celtaidd 2017 – Headliners Announcement

Celtic folk bands Calan and Jamie Smith’s Mabon are announced to headline Wales’ Inter-Celtic Festival in Porthcawl this year.

Bands Calan and Jamie Smith’s Mabon will join other artists to perform at Porthcawl’s Grand Pavilion on March 10-12th, 2017 in the annual festival that celebrates music and dance from the Celtic nations.

For a whole weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy performances, workshops, street dancing as well as watch the Wales v Ireland 6 Nations rugby match live on a big screen – all for only £25.

Young Welsh folk band, Calan, have made a name for themselves in the British folk scene as well as abroad. They will begin their international tour promoting their new album ‘Solomon’ soon. They will be performing a taste of their new material at Cwlwm Celtaidd on Saturday, March 11th. Angharad Jenkins, who plays fiddle for Calan, says;

“I’m really looking forward to play at Cwlwm Celtaidd once more this year. It’s a pleasure to be part of this Welsh festival that celebrates music and dance of all the Celtic nations. It’s also lovely to meet up with friends from the Isle of Man, Scotland and more, right on our door step. I’m sure a great big party will take place in Porthcawl over the weekend.”

On Friday, March 10th, Wales v Ireland 6 Nations clash will be shown live on the big screen with live music and dance and a special performance by Jamie Smith’s Mabon to close the evening.

Tickets for the evening concerts as well as weekend tickets are available on the Grand Pavilion’s website.
