With an exquisitely expressive voice and a deep connection to the Scottish Highlands, Joy Dunlop is one of today’s foremost Scottish Gaelic, and World music singers. A vocalist renowned for her ability to breath new life into the most traditional material, Joy translates ancient Gaelic musical traditions into the twenty-first century with elegance and grace. The emotional power of her singing needs no translation, speaking to audiences across the divides of language and history in a voice as luminous and compelling as her native Argyll.
Her new 5 piece band featuring Ron Jappy (guitar), Mairi Marwick (fiddle), Gus Stirrat (bass) and Ifedade Thomas (drums), explores Scotland’s cultural links through exhilarating music and dance collaborations, interspersed with breathtaking songs in Scotland’s native language, Scottish Gàidhlig. The result, is music deeply rooted in Scottish authenticity and tradition, yet infused with the energy and vigour of a new generation.
This is Joy’s second appearance at Cwlwm Celtaidd festival.
